History

From conversation to organization

The vision for Grace was born in 1992 as a pilot program to provide safe and nurturing space for persons who chose to join with others in a deep-dive small-group experience for study, dialogue, and accountability in their faith journeys.

This work began with Rev. Wilson conducting monthly theological reflection, initially as one-on-one dialogues about faith, as requested by clergy and laypersons. These monthly sessions grew into half-day and one-day small group retreats, focused on faith formation and daily living. This work spread by word of mouth and invitations were received from congregations to conduct leadership development sessions. Our curriculum’s model, Teaching Mission Practice©, was further developed in pastoral ministry, its value evidenced by increased congregational vitality and capacity building, and substantive community partnerships.

This productivity resulted in more teaching/training opportunities in the areas of spiritual formation, leadership development, and community engagement for seminaries, denominations, and community organizations.

Rev. Wilson and a board of directors founded Grace as a nonprofit organization in 2015.
